The Beer Page
Wish you had a beer right about now? Is it 5:30 yet!?!

We here at Boulder MTB Racing have been known to throw back a few pints at our team meetings and after our rides. Some of us are full on beer aficionados, and some of us, plainly put, like to drink good beer.
All beer is good its just a matter of palate. Everyone has different tastes, and to each their own, right? So at this point we’ll continue to argue amongst ourselves as to which ones are the best. Avery will of course try to sway our opinion by continuously making the best beer to be found in Colorado. Either way, we’ll be updating this page with facts, quotes and a monthly review of a local brew just to spice it up a bit. Besides, I’ve always said beer and mountain biking are synonymous with each other!
April’s quote of the month:
“Marriage is based on the theory that when man discovers a brand of beer exactly to his taste he should at once throw up his job and go work in the brewery. ”
George Jean Nathan
US drama critic & editor (1882 – 1958)
I guess I need to get a job at Avery!
April’s Beer Review:

Avery White Rascal
ABV: 5.6%
Beer Style: Belgian White Ale
Avery Brewing describes White Rascal as “A truly authentic Belgian style wheat or “white” ale, this Rascal is unfiltered (yup, that’s yeast on the bottom) and cleverly spiced with coriander and Curacao orange peel producing a refreshingly fruity thirst quencher.”
When I asked everyone what kind of beer they wanted to drink while at the Fruita Training Camp, everyone replied White Rascal. Its not heavy, has a refreshing and thirst quenching taste and is just damn tasty. With lots of coriander on the initial taste and a light crisp citrus-y taste, it was agreeable to all who were there. We highly recommend you grab a six-er on your way home next time your faced with a long ride in hot conditions. It’ll put a devious little smile on your face with the first sip.
May’s quote of the month:
“Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed – Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn’t drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, ‘It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.’”

May’s Beer Review:

Goose Island Bourbon County Stout
ABV: 13%
Beer Style: Bourbon Barrel Aged – Imperial Stout
Goose Island somes up this one as a beer “Brewed in honor of the 1000th batch at our original Clybourn brewpub. A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with thick foam the color of a bourbon barrel. The nose is an intense mix of charred oak, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. A great cigar beer. But, we haven’t found a cigar that can hold up to flavor of this beer yet”
Let’s just say if you like your bourbon and you like your stout, you couldn’t find a better pairing. High in alcohol, the first sip just knocks your taste buds to the roof! I was fortunate to find this at one of our local Packaging Stores and have been able to revisit this beer more often than one should be allowed. All I can say is wow! If you see it, grab it. Pay no attention to the cost. Hide it from anyone who is not a believer and share it with your loved ones. But be careful, one bottle is enough to lay you out for the night.
Good people drink gooood beer, we just happen to be mountain biking peoples!!
Cheers!
